Fierce Love
Barnsley was one of the first towns in the country to begin to commission artworks to commemorate the sacrifices made during COVID. This neon installation stands in the heart of the town centre – in the windows of the Light Box in the new The Glass Works square. This project again works with the powerful words of poet, journalist and broadcaster Ian McMillan ‘Barnsley’s fierce love holds you forever in its heart’. Patrick designed a custom typeface for the neon work.
The installation was 20mtrs in length and featured text and a neon heart symbol that Patrick had designed to represent the passion and dedication shown by local people. The heart neon was animated with colour neons turning on and off to visualise a beat. The design was also turned into an enamel and metal badge that could be distributed.
